Thoughts on Politics, Rome, and the Future

Thoughts on Politics, Rome, and the Future

Sometimes the parallels between the United States and Rome are amazing. Both were once the greatest power the world knew in their respective time period, both held great influence over world affairs, both were the centers for politics, culture, learning, and economy, and one met a slow and steady decline ending in total ruin, while the other seems to be on the very same path. It may be an overly used cliche, but history truly does repeat itself; and those who do not learn from it are doomed to repeat it. Many times the leaders who we entrust to run our country cant see past their own power, egos, and political ignorance to properly govern. This happened in Rome and it is surely happening now in our country.

Rome was not conquered overnight by a marauding army that swept in from a foreign land. No Rome crumbled from within because its citizens and leaders became fat, lazy, complacent, and fought among themselves rather than taking care of the problems facing their Republic. They let the Roman infrastructure rot under the weight of a stagnate government and culture. The saying "Panem Et Circenses" comes from Rome. It was a political strategy devised by the Roman leaders. It means "bread and circuses". Those leaders figured as long as the Roman population was fat and entertained they would not hinder policies that the government wanted to pursue. Does any of this seem familiar?

Eventually Rome became a shell of what it once was; a great world power. While the Romans were busy fighting amongst themselves the Visigoths, a branch of the Gothic tribes to the north of Rome, ready themselves for an eventual takeover of Rome. They slowly leaked across the border fighting the Romans where they could. This continued until the Visigoths were at the gates of Rome.

You don't have to use too much imagination to see how our country now is facing nearly the same prospects. On a daily basis the incompetent, impotent, and worthless people we have elected to public office fight amongst themselves rather than taking care of the nations problems. These people are more concerned with pleasing their donors and party than doing what is right for America. It truly makes me sick to think about who we have leading the country right now. I was watching Sen. Sherrod Brown, for about 2 mins today, and all I saw was one more political opportunist hack. He had nothing original to say to me. All I heard from his rotten mouth was the usual party line talking points. What kills me is that there are millions of people out there who will buy this nonsense, from both parties!

The two party system has nearly destroyed any new political thought in this country. The parties, their candidates, and many of the people who work for them are only concerned with maintaining their power. The Democrat Party is sounding more and more like a defeatist Euro-Socialist party everyday. The Republican Party was once the home for true conservative thought. That died with Ronald Reagan. Now we have a globalist who can do almost nothing right and has nearly killed any chance of a true conservative getting elected in 2008. George Bush wants an open border than can facilitate the flow of cheap labor across national boundaries. I have no problem at all with companies making as much money as they can, because that is what drives our economy (or atleast that is what should drive it). But to do it at the expense of our national security is a crime.

I can barely express my disgust for the Democrats. I have never seen a larger group of whining, thoughtless, misguided, posturing, do-nothing Socialists in my entire life. If this is the only other option to a Republican Party that is bankrupt of any true Conservative thought, then God help us all. If they could even be a rational American party that could truly give the GOP a run for their money then maybe we wouldn't be in the state we are right now. Instead they are more concerned with telling you what light bulbs to use and telling people who want us dead that we are defeated. The last decent elected Democrat is sitting in a Federal prison somewhere. James Traficant.

We are Rome and I fear that we will meet the same fate as Rome. No nation has reigned supreme forever. Even the once mighty British Empire has been reduced to nothingness. If we cant see what our leaders are doing to us now, and hold them accountable for their actions we will face the fate as Rome.

Remember, while they may be selfish hacks, you do have the final say in who gets elected in this country. Use that power wisely.

Hillary Clinton: You're kidding me right?

I know. I know. We elected George W. Bush twice. I'm also very aware that this wasn't a very good option. But given the options it was the best we could do. Did you really want an eco-lunatic or flip flopping Northeast liberal in the White House? Sure Bush is wrong on a lot of things, but atleast he's consistently wrong (trust me I'm going to lay into this piece of garbage in another blogging). But I praying to my Sweet Jesus that the American people can somehow shake themselves loose from their American Idol/Survivor/24/InsertLameAssRealityShowHere haze and see through this woman facade. She is a Socialist bordering on total Communist! Remember the only thing that separates a Socialist and Communist is a gun barrel.

I want to run down some of Hillary's core ideas in her campaign. They are the usual, time tested Democrat tactics that rely on the ignorance of the American voter. They make bogeymen out of "corporations", "Christians", "conservatives", "big oil" and the list goes on. Clinton falls right in line with the other unoriginal bastards on the left. They've yet to come up with an original idea that doesn't involve more government programs or interference since Big Red Jefferson (that was when the Liberals in America were actually on the right side of most issues, really they are nothing like today's Liberals, nevermind).

She wants to tax corporations and "big oil" when they turn too much profit. Now to the misguided, dimwitted, mentally warped Liberal these sound like great ideas! Go after the big evil corporations that crush the little guy. Make them pay more in taxes and that'll force them to lower prices.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong....oh how wrong you are! Corporations don't pay taxes. No the consumer pays the taxes. Think about it. If you owned a company and the government came to you and said we are increasing your tax rate from 60% to 70%, what would you do? Lower your prices and make even less profit after the tax hike? No you would raise the prices of goods and services to cover that extra 10% that is stolen from an entity that produces nothing of worth. Its very, very simple if you take a minute to think about it.

Raising taxes on corporations is just like raising taxes on the individual. If you want one reason why so many companies choose to leave the U.S. or even this area you might want to look at the tax rate for starters. Here is an example that I am personally aware of regarding this issue. The office I work in now did not exist a year ago. It was located in Pittsburgh, PA. The good people of Dominion Gas Co were being taxed to such a great extent by the city and state that they took the path of least resistance/most profit and moved the office. Where did they move the office? To Perry Township. Just outside of Canton, OH. In fact just over the city limits because they didn't want to pay into the city income tax in Canton. Why is business booming in the South? Southern states have much lower taxes than Northeast/Midwest states. You can take this example and expand it to a national level as well. The U.S. has some of the highest corporate taxes in the world. Only Japan has higher tax rates in this area. This taxing stifles growth and opportunity because it is money that is being paid into an bloated and ineffectual government. Money that could be used to pay workers a better wage here in the U.S., or used for research/development into new technology.

And who is Hillary Clinton to decide how much profit is too much profit? I agree that corporate collusion is evil and should be prosecuted. This is what I believe is going on with the oil industry today. But the government has no right to tell a company that they've made "too much" money this year and they will now be penalized for it. Who sets the bar for "too much"? Does this bar move up or down? And what causes it to move? I'm interested to hear her explanation.

When you hear "shared responsibility" coming out of Clinton's mouth think Socialism. This seems to be her newest catch phrase that she hopes will entice her idiot base to vote for her. "Shared responsibility" means higher taxes for those of us who are productive, hard working, and provide goods or sevices that others desire. It means lowering standards and dragging others down to a common level. Making it harder for those who want to work to succeed is no way to go about growing an economy. I believe in the old saying that if you give a man a fish you feed him for a day, if you teach a man to fish you feed him for life. A hand up is far more beneficial than a hand out.

Illegal Amnesty Bill

Illegal Amnesty Bill

George W. Bush has lost me. What little respect I had for our worst President since Jimmuh Carter is now completely gone, and I believe I speak for many other conservatives around the country. He attacked the base that was responsible for electing him twice. He accused us of fear-mongering and nit picking pieces of the bill. Bush encouraged Congressional leaders to show courage and vote for the Illegal Amnesty Bill and ignore the opinion of a majority of Americans who very strongly oppose any amnesty for illegal.

Make no mistake this IS amnesty no matter what Bush, McCain, Kennedy, or any other worthless politician tells you. These people are rewarded for breaking our laws by obtaining legal status the second this bill is passed into law. Can you imagine how the good upstanding people who have waited years for green cards, or have become citizens the right way feel? They've spent time and money observing the rule of law while these illegals get off free. They did nothing more than cross the border under the cover of darkness.

The bill promises to levy fines against illegals. This wont happen. The left will say that it is unfair to burden these impoverished people with such fines that they will not be able to pay. Even if they do keep this provision Im certain they will work in an amendment that will allow for deferments of payment. This will then turn into non-payment. It promises that background checks will be run within 24 hours while the illegals wait for their new visas. Do you really think the government is capable of such a task? Identifying over 12 million illegals who will swarm INS offices when this free ride is handed out? Never.

They say they will deport those who are here illegally and send them to the end of the line behind those are have applied legally for citizenship. They refuse to arrest and deport illegals now. Do you think this will change once they are given legal status? Not a chance.

Will there be any real push or incentives for learning the English language? They dont have to speak it now because the government has bowed to their wants and needs. A century ago when immigrants were coming to American from Southern Europe they had to learn to speak English just to survive. They took pride in learning the language and being a part of the American culture. They even discouraged their children from speaking the native tongue because they knew how important it was to speak English and to fit into the bigger picture. What happened to this spirit? I have no problem at all with maintaining your custom and languages in your own home, but dont expect the rest of us and our government to change. Think about if you moved to Germany, Russia, China, or Japan? Would you expect them to change or would you learn their language and customs; but still maintain your own? You would learn to adapt.

When you write or call your Congressman let them know that a vote for this bill is a vote against them in the next election. We need to secure our borders. We need to build a fence and allow our border guards to do their job (and not imprison them)! We need to push English as a national language. We need to then deport those who have broken the law. The common American still respects the rule of law, dont let them forget it.

Every group is represented in this bill and except the common American. Business gets to maintain its cheap labor, the politicians get to win over more voters (the most important thing to a scumbag politician).

Let them know that you are watching. Let them know how you feel and let them know they will be removed if this bill passes.

We've seen bills like this before and they dont work. We have laws on the books now to deal with this problem. Enforce the laws and build a fence.

Its so simple. Now call/write your local scumbag/politician.

Thoughts On Immigration

Here's the deal. Illegal immigration is an incredible burden on the economy and society. When illegals pour over the border unchecked they bring economic ruin with them. States here find it right to supply these people with health care for no reason, but we are compassionate enough here that we wouldnt let someone just die in the street or have a child in the gutter. So the legal immigrants and natural citizens of the country have to pick up the tab.

We provide schooling for these illegals. Some even get preferential treatment over real citizens. They are given different tuition fees for college, they are given driver licenses, and if they have children here they are considered citizens when in reality the US Constitution provides for no such thing.

Americans are well aware that this country was built on immigration. Legal immigration from all over the world. My relatives just a few generation ago came here legally from Ireland and Italy. They learned the English language, they didnt ask for special privledges, and for the most part they assmilated into the culture.

What we have today is an attempt to balkanize the US. When English takes a backseat to every other language that is when we begin to fragment. For generations good, decent, LEGAL immigrants have come here and helped to make this country the best in the world. I know some may not like my saying that, but its true. Those legal immigrants built the railways, bridges, buildings, roads and boats that made us great. They fought in wars for what we believe to be true. They raised successful hard working decent children because they understood the sacrifice and what it took to make it here in America.

People from all over the world want to come here, and some die trying to do so because its the best of whats around. How many Americans flee to the tyranical Middle East? How many run off to Red China? How many cross over to Mexico? Im sure there are some, but not many. I guantee it. People come here because this is the one country that gives you the most opportunity to be free to do what you want and to make money doing it.

All Im saying is come here legally. Many people do. They do the right thing and some have to wait years to attain citizenship, while they watch free loaders and criminals sneak across the border; and then receive better treatment that some Americans.

Come here legally, learn the English language, speak it in public discourse and in business, keep all the traditions/language/cultural events of your homeland as well! Celebrate where you came from and celebrate being an American. Keep your religion and your identity, but remember you're an American first. Thats all we ask. Because when you begin to allow people to come here unchecked, give them free health care and education without paying their fair share, and bow to their language you begin to fragment YOUR culture and society.

Heres a thought. If you go to Mexico as an illegal you are jailed. You have little or no rights. Even as a legal immigrant you're not allowed to vote in Mexican elections. You must report on a regular basis to a government authority to update your legal status, and there is a whole host of other rules and regulations just to be in Mexico legally. Meanwhile, they produce pamphlets to show their citizens how to enter the US.

If Mexicans and others want to come here, there are legal avenues to do so and I welcome them.

To My Congressman!

I recently sent this to my Congressman, Tim Ryan (D) 17th District of Ohio, God help us.

Mr. Ryan,

To call you Honorable is an insult to me and to the 17th district. Luckily for you, you were elected by a district that will vote straight party ticket until this Nation is finally run into the ground by your ilk. I do not expect that there will be much outcry here in the 17th district over your vote to embolden our enemies, and drive a knife squarely into the collective backs of our military personel in Iraq. Yes, lucky for you we live in an age of uninformed, unmotivated, and ignorant voters.

But I still feel it is my duty to remind you of what you have done to this country. I would expect nothing less from a lapdog of Rep. Pelosi. You have played the "go along to get along" card since you entered the House. It would be hard to find a more mindless drone in the Congress, so it is of no great surprise that you voted with the Party on this issue. I hope and pray, to whatever God you see fit to worship, that you might be able to grasp this simple concept. The enemy of our country, the Islamic extremists, are watching every move that the government makes throughout this entire war; and seeing the House vote against the Commander in Chief, is one more small victory for them.

Of course, this issue could be resolved. You and the Democrat Party, along with a few Republicans, could easily bring a vote to the floor to defund the War in Iraq. This would require some in the House to stand on their convictions. The thought of standing on such a weak foundation must be frightening.

I will leave you with some historical perspective Mr. Ryan. There was once a Democrat Congressman from our area; his name was Clement Vallandigham. He did his best, along with other Copperhead Democrats, to defeat the cause of the Union. At a time when the nation needed the complete support of those in power, when we were faced with a turning point in our history that could have destroyed this nation, he chose to turn his back on the country. Vallandigham was eventually handed over to the Confederates who had no use for him. He escaped to Canada, and made several failed attempts to win public office again in Ohio.

You may be safe here in the 17th district, but dont think that your actions or the actions of others in your party will be  forgotten by those of us who understand what this fight and the coming fights mean to the future of our country.

I never received a response from Mr. Ryan, I really never thought I would...
